Midland Scottish MPE330 (ULS 330T)

Chassis Leyland Leopard PSU3E/4R no. 7805929

Body Alexander AYS B53F body no. 127AYS/2977/14

History

This vehicle was new to W. Alexander & Sons (Midland) in April 1979. It is one of several hundred similar buses bought by Midland over several decades. It subsequently ended up in the fleet of Strathtay Scottish, which had inherited the Perth, Crieff and Pitlochry depots of Midland.

In its early life with Strathtay it worked out of Crieff depot, which closed in 1991. This photograph from the late 1980s shows it in Crieff; here, in 1991, it is pictured at Dundee working a service to Kirriemuir. Later in its life the bus was transferred to Strathtay’s associated company James Meffan of Kirriemuir, where it saw use on school services for several years.

Restoration

Restoration work on this vehicle has begun recently. The engine has been started, although some work is required before the bus can move, and a start has been made on stripping paint from the bodywork.
