Chassis Leyland Constructor

History

The vehicle was new in 1984 to the Royal Air Force. It passed from the RAF to a dealer in Wisbech who installed the current heavy-duty towing equipment in 1991. They sold it to Baldoukie Motors of Tannadice, near Forfar, who sold it to the present owner in 2006. The vehicle is powered by a Rolls-Royce Eagle 265 engine.

Restoration

When purchased by the current owner the cab and doors were rotten and had to be rebuilt. As can be seen in the photographs, the lorry is painted in the colours of Dundee Corporation Transport, complete with lining out, legal lettering and fleetnumber. Restoration work was carried out by Alan Duggan at Auchterarder. Originally registered A589 RTW, it currently carries a Q-plate. Since the vehicle returned to the road a few minor niggles have been experienced with the hydraulics but generally the vehicle runs well.
